---------- SELECTION
GUIDELINES -----------
Choosing the correct dockboard length will depend on whether
a pallet truck or forklift is used. The type of forklift should also be considered since
each type of machine has a different maximum grade capacity. The length must be determined
taking into account the highest trailer served by the machine with the least grade
capabilities. To prevent equipment damage, averages should not be used. Trailers lower
than dock level should be elevated with wheel risers. Grades falling below dock level will
affect correct ramp length. Call us for assistance.
Choosing the correct dockboard width
will improve loading efficiency. A wider dockboard prevents repositioning to reach end
loads. Both aluminum and steel dockboards in 60" widths work best; RED-PIN steel boards should be at least 70" wide. Pallet
trucks using a dockplate require a 48" width for
best results. When using 4-wheel forklifts with over 5,000 lb. capacity, a 70"
minimum width is recommended. RAIL-LOK boards
require a dealer-furnished railboard worksheet completed by the customer.
